Meet the Designer - Mike Fischesser
As a kid, Mike Fischesser was always building treehouses, walkways between trees and Boy Scout bridges and signal towers. He was very active in Scouting in North Carolina from 1963 through 1971.
In 1971 Mike began an 18-year involvement with Outward Bound, which laid a strong foundation in safety and program design. At the age of 26 Mike became the Program Director of the North Carolina Outward Bound School. Later he joined the Outward Bound USA National Headquarters as the director of the National Training Institute which was based on the Kurt Hahn Leadership Center that he designed at NCOBS.
In 1989, Mike created Alpine Towers, which eventually developed into one of the most successful and respected challenge course companies in the world with over 225 Alpine Towers, numerous climbing towers and teambuilding courses in use.
Mike served as the chairman of the Safety and Techniques Committee of the National Speleological Society for seven years. He is a life member of the NSS and the American Alpine Club.
In 1996 Mike created The American Adventure Service Corps, a non-profit organization for youth ages 8 to 18.
Personal Summits was also started by Mike in 2002. It is a drug, alcohol, tobacco and violence prevention program for school age kids.
Mike still enjoys designing and creating new programs and adventure designs. He is very excited about the versatility and fresh concepts of the new Beanstalk Climbing Tower, Teams Ropes Course and Adventure Playground.
Our Mission – A message from Mike Fischesser
At Beanstalk Journeys we strive to give people outdoor adventures with positive experiences to foster an appreciation for the environment, on-going injections of self-esteem, development of physical and mental fitness and revitalization of the human spirit. In other words - to make the world a better place through outdoor climbing adventures.
It is a very simple formula: When people feel good about themselves, they relate to others and the environment in a more positive way, thereby creating a powerful multiplier effect for spreading goodness.
Sound corny? Just watch the glow radiating from people who accomplish something unusual or challenging like conquering a climbing tower.
At Beanstalk Journeys we try to achieve personal growth opportunities in all our designs. Of course something like a wilderness footbridge is going to have a different experience than climbing to the top of a Beanstalk Climbing Tower but if the footbridge is custom designed to be aesthetically pleasing and visually intriguing, people will feel a difference on the other side of that simple trek. Our beautiful 130-foot bridge over North Carolina’s Elk River always generates comments of amazement and beauty as people stand in the middle and admire the view.
